No matter what your day looks like, though, it’s important to have some sort of system to keep you on track. As an educator, you can lead by example by maintaining regular organization and wellness planners. We’ve got the tools you need to get yourself (and your students) started.

Tips to Use Alongside Your Organization & Wellness Planners

We can't plan for everything, but we can approach this next semester with better strategies to balance the workload and prepare for our best semester yet. Here are a few of our favorite tips for staying organized:

1. Color coordinate

Who doesn’t love colors? Use different colors or patterns to organize tabs, notebooks, or folders. Not only is this a fun way to feel a little more connected to your work and study materials by personalizing them, but it’s also helpful for keeping relevant information together so you can find it faster when you need it.

2. Make your own rules

Setting personal deadlines and establishing a work routine is a great way to help you feel in control of your workload.

For some people, working on the task they are least excited to do first is the best way to ensure it gets done. Getting the easiest or least time-consuming tasks out of the way and then focusing on bigger projects is best for others. Some people need to set early deadlines to make sure things get done on time.

Do what works for you, and then stick to your own rules.

3. Write everything down

Writing down assignments or tasks in a planner is a great way to stay organized and remember important details. Be sure to keep your planner somewhere you can get to easily, like on your desk or in your book bag. That way, you can get right to it when you need to write something down or check on what you need to get done for the day.

4. Beware of overcommitting

Set realistic expectations for yourself. Rome wasn’t built in a day! Don’t be afraid to say no if your plate feels too full or if you think that you won’t be able to give your full attention to something.

5. Think ahead

Spacing out your work will help make checking things off your to-do list a more manageable and relaxing experience. Sometimes, it can be hard to gauge just how long we think a task might take to get done, so it’s a good idea to leave wiggle room, especially if you are working on a larger project or taking on something new for the first time.
