Texas World Geography Studies (Apex)

Texas World Geography Studies is a two-semester course that offers a tightly focused and scaffolded curriculum that enables students to explore how geographical features, human relationships, political and social structures, economics, science and technology, and the arts have developed and influenced life in countries around the world. Throughout the course students analyze geographic information such as maps, photographs, and demographic statistics. They also describe and evaluate the influence of globalization. To scaffold their analysis, students are given rigorous instruction on how to read and create maps, charts, and graphs.

To structure knowledge in a manner that allows students to think as geographers, the course is organized around the geographic themes of location, place, religion, migration, and human environment interaction. These themes are addressed through the lenses of physical geography, cultural geography, political geography, and globalization and economics.

Students are supported in applying their new geography skills through a variety of assignments such as Practices, Journals, and Discussions as they examine issues near to home and worldwide.

This course is built to the TEKS World Geography Studies Standards and Benchmarks.

This updated course was originally created for Apex Courses and is now available in Courseware.
