Virginia Introduction to Culinary Arts A/B

Virginia Introduction to Culinary Arts is a two-semester course intended to help students gain an understanding of the history and development of the culinary arts as well as practical skills for careers in the culinary industry. This course covers the basics of nutrition, health, safety, and sanitation and the basic science principles used in cooking. Students will be exposed to the culinary skills required to make a variety of food items. Additionally, students will become familiar with menu planning, food presentation, different service styles, and kitchen management skills. This course is based on Career and Technical Education (CTE) standards designed to help students prepare for entry into a wide range of careers in the culinary industry.
