About the Recommended Instructional Materials Program

The purpose of state recommendation of instructional material is to provide the schools of the state the very best available core-related materials and to eliminate instructional materials that violate Utah Code or State Board rules. The major focus of course review is for the core of the designated course, but the review addresses issues such as equity, material quality and construction, adherence to Utah law, and other appropriate issues. The Utah Core Standards are aligned to scientifically based content standards. They drive high-quality instruction through statewide comprehensive expectations for all students. The standards outline essential knowledge, concepts, and skills to be mastered at each grade level or within a critical content area. The standards provide a foundation for ensuring learning within the classroom.
