Challenge

Ash Shura Institute of Quranic Sciences (ASIQS), located in Malaysia, is a school that was founded in 2012. It has over 350 students among three separate buildings.

Like with many organizations, leaders of high-performing schools consistently seek to learn and grow, just as is expected of their students. For Ash Shura Institute of Quranic Sciences (ASIQS), it is no different. School leaders wanted to be able to offer students more choice and flexibility, in addition to providing a solution to students who need foundational skills instruction with curricula designed just for their individual needs. However, the school did not have the teachers to support every subject area of interest from students.

“It [Exact Path], is high quality, the questions asked are interesting and challenging. The real-life examples really help how well our students learn.”

Solution

For Ash Shura Institute of Quranic Sciences (ASIQS), a holistic solution of Courseware and Exact Path became the perfect combination to provide choice, flexibility, and rigor in order to support students in their individual needs. Al Badr is able to utilize the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) curriculum and combine Edmentum curriculum to be able to align to standards and meet student needs.

Result

Ash Shura Institute of Quranic Sciences (ASIQS) utilizes Courseware during the traditional school day with the support of teachers to create custom courses. Teachers enjoy being able to match and blend IGCSE standards with Courseware curriculum, so teachers do not have to create courses from nothing; rather they have a strong base to develop courses. Students have completed over 4,400 hours of work in Courseware since January 2023. Students have spent much of that time learning electives like Theater, Cinema, and Film Production; Veterinary Science; Public Speaking; and Animation.

Teachers were apprehensive at first to incorporate Courseware, but they were excited to learn about custom courses that were easy to implement into their current teaching. Teachers have customized courses like Quranic Thoughts, demonstrating how truly flexible Courseware can be in multiple environments. Teachers especially enjoyed being able to do everything in one system, including using simplified reports.

Exact Path is utilized in a separate learning environment from the traditional school schedule. School leaders shared that they’ve seen large improvements for individual students needing specific foundational skills. Since January 2023 to spring 2023, students have spent 2,237 hours across all schools in the system learning in Exact Path, which is 6 hours on average per student.
